As another football season has come to an end (for many at least), now is the perfect time to take a look back at the past 12 months, through the eyes of Bepro users.
Below you will see a range of stories from 2021/22 from teams who have enjoyed success, from winning major trophies, to celebrating promotion, to developing stars for the future.
1. Bringing Home Silverware
Every team sets out to achieve glory at the start of the season, but in each competition there can only be one winner. We were lucky enough to support a number of teams who took home a trophy, from amongst the biggest in Europe to major regional competitions, in different nations.
- UEFA Europa League - Eintracht Frankfurt
- Serie A (Italy) - A.C. Milan
- Serie B (Italy) - U.S. Lecce
- Primera RFEF (Spain) - Real Racing Club Santander
- Regionalliga Nordost (Germany) - Berliner FC Dynamo
- Regionalliga Ost (Austria) - First Vienna FC
2. Back to Europe: 1. FC Köln Turn Things Around
This time last year, the men’s first team at 1. FC Köln had thankfully just avoided being relegated from the Bundesliga after victory in the relegation playoffs. Fast forward to this past season and they are celebrating a seventh place finish and a spot in the Europa Conference League for 22/23!
The team have been using video and data for several years, with Bepro being part of their workflow in the last few seasons. A key to the improved league position has been a laser focus on detail, which is demonstrated by the club’s use of training recording. By breaking down this footage no opportunity to improve was missed.
3. The New Generation: Youth Success
We exist to help our users grow. This is why we are especially proud to support youth teams as they work to develop future football stars. Although winning is not always the most important thing in youth sport, success on the pitch is a great indication of a team and group of players who are starting to fulfil their potential. We were lucky enough to witness this with clubs across Europe. It's also worth sharing that this is where Bepro started - helping young players improve!
a) Italian Cup Winners
We had a user club in every Italian national youth final match, from U18 to U15. At U18 level, both finalists, S.P.A.L. and Bologna FC, use Bepro. It was a shame only one side could win, in this case S.P.A.L. took the trophy home.
For the first time in over 20 years Bologna claimed the U17 title, overcoming Inter Milan 3-2, scoring all their goals in the final 14 minutes.
A.C. Milan featured in both the U16 and U15 finals. They unfortunately lost the U16 game to AS Roma, but claimed the U15 title for the first time since 2010 with a 1-0 victory over Fiorentina. Milan’s youth department is supported by our live video (match and training) and event data services.
b) Topping the League Table in Spain
In Group 2 of División de Honor Juvenil, Spain’s highest level competition for U19 teams, the top four teams all use Bepro.
Athletic Club use Bepro across several youth and development teams, allowing them to benchmark performances and make more informed decisions at different age groups in their academy.
c) Reaching New Levels in England
The academies from two historic clubs reached new heights this season, with Bepro being there to help them.
In their first season in Division 1 of Premier League 2 (England’s top U23 league), Crystal Palace finished fifth, above some of the biggest clubs in the country. Palace’s U18s also achieved an impressive 3rd in the Southern U18 Premier League. As well as making significant investments in their facility and infrastructure, the club also brought in new technology when they began to use Bepro at the academy.
“We've managed to bring Bepro in who save a lot of our time in terms of hours...(our analysts) are actually analysing individual player performance, they're analysing our game model, our team performance. They've actually got a lot of hours back.” Dougie Wright, Head of Academy Analysis, Crystal Palace
Accrington Stanley got to the Fourth Round of the English FA Youth Cup for the first time recently, having beaten the likes of Swansea and Bolton. We spent time with the academy to see first hand the work they put in to produce young players and how technology helps engage them in their own development. See it here.
d) German Finalists: Youth Bundesliga Success
With their men’s first team having a difficult season which thankfully ended in survival, Hertha BSC’s U19 and U17 men’s sides had a different experience as they finished top of their respective Youth Bundesliga groups (the highest level of youth football in Germany), with the U19s getting to the national final and U17s reaching the semi finals.
Hertha's men's senior side’s survival in the Bundesliga was helped by some great talent who graduated to the first team over the season, including Anton Kade, Julian Eitschberger and promising defender Linus Gechter. Both the youth sides and these individuals used Bepro to help development.
4. Success in Regionalliga Nordost: Bepro Teams Dominate
We support the league as their Official Performance Analysis Provider, analysing every game, to help support the league, federation and many of the teams within the league. Regionalliga Nordost is a regional league, at the fourth tier of football in Germany. You can hear from the league’s CEO in our interview video here.
Reviewing the final 21/22 league positions, none of the bottom three sides use Bepro, but all of the top five do, including Berliner FC Dynamo, who won the league but unfortunately missed out on promotion to 3. Liga by a single goal, losing in the promotion playoffs.
5. La Liga Founders Rise Again
As a founding member of La Liga, Real Racing Club Santander have faced challenges following their relegation from La Liga 2 in 19/20. Two seasons later and they’ve won their RFEF Primera group and the overall competition after beating Andora, who won the other group, resulting in a league title and promotion back to La Liga 2, the second highest league in Spain.
The club made the decision to bring in more technology to support their workflow, despite the difficult situation, recognising it as something which can support them in the short and long term. You can see a video we made with the club in 2021 here, featuring staff and coaches.
The club uses data and video across the club, helping them develop young talent. Barcelona recently signed 19 year old Pablo Torre, who has come through the ranks at Racing and made a big difference to the first team this season.
6. Reaching the Promised Land in Italy
Scudetto holders A.C. Milan will be joined by two other Bepro user clubs next season, following U.S. Lecce and A.C. Monza’s promotions to Serie A.
Lecce had the easier path as they won Serie B, conceding the fewest goals of any club in the league. Monza had to face the playoffs, which they got through successfully, scoring 10 goals over four matches. Both sides benefited from Bepro cameras and data analysis as they competed to reach the highest level of Italian football.
Three Bepro clubs will be fighting it out in Serie A next season, with Milan already (very successfully) competing at the top of the Italian pyramid.
Historic Club Palermo F.C., who use our camera system and event analysis packages, also achieved promotion through the playoffs and will be competing in Serie B for the 22/23 season!
The 2021/22 season was our biggest ever, as we supported more teams than ever before with cameras, data and tools to help them reach their next level. We cannot wait to help even more teams next season, as we welcome more teams from across the world to the Bepro family.
